November 6th, 2009: Optimum pressure control tuning was performed at a number of stations of a major crude oil pipeline system. The line was left operating in a stable manner with minimized station loop interaction and optimized pressure variability.

October 30th, 2009: Fernando Otero, from Optimo Group Inc., taught the course Process Control Optimization and Advanced Control for ISA in Colombia, South America. The course, attended by industry engineers, described the main aspects of process variability  management through the optimum performance of process controls and explained the different options of advanced process control (APC) available such as adaptive control, fuzzy logic control, neural networks, and model predictive control (MPC).

October 16th, 2009: The process modeling and simulation on a main line of a major liquid Pipeline company was performed in order to analyze performance, determine process gain behavior, implement loop linearization, and estimate optimum tuning. The results of this are used to perform optimum pipeline pressure control tuning and improve loop and pipeline performance.

October 2nd, 2009: Fernando Otero, CAP, from Optimo Group Inc., presented a paper at the 2009 Emerson Users Exchange in Orlando, FLThe title of the presentation was: Minimize Variability in your Plant - Optimize Controls - Use Performance Metrics.This presentation illustrates techniques to quantify and minimize variability. Optimization of controls and use of loop and plant performance metrics and key performance indicators (KIP’s) are presented. Profit increase and savings generation are feasible when process variability is minimized and plant performance is monitored. Examples of use of DeltaV InSight and variability analysis are shown.

September 25th, 2009: Functional specification for the automation of a packaged boiler was performed. The project included the combustion control system and the burner management system. The automation system involves the plant master, boiler master, fuel oil flow, natural gas flow, combustion air flow, furnace pressure, excess oxygen, drum level, and feedwater flow.

September 4th, 2009: A control loop optimization of the chemiwahser in a pulp and paper plant significantly reduced process variability, minimized carry over, provided stable automatic operation, and generated savings in chemical.

August 27th, 2009: Coke battery overall control optimization improved stability in plant operation, significantly eliminated number of emission release, and reduced process variability throughout the plant. Plant sections such as battery offtakes, exhauster, byproducts, booster compressor, flare stack, gas delivery are operating in a smoother and more efficient manner.

August 17th, 2009: Distillation train control improvement study and Optimum Loop Tuning class performed at an oil refinery in Central America.

August 6th, 2009: Optimo Group Inc. performs pipeline pressure control at several crude oil pipeline stations.
